The first Dáil Éireann, convened on January 21, 1919, had only 27 TDs present due to several factors. Many elected representatives were either imprisoned by British authorities or in hiding due to their involvement in the struggle for Irish independence. Additionally, some were unable to attend for logistical reasons or due to the ongoing conflict, which limited the ability of many to travel safely. Despite the low turnout, the meeting marked a significant step in establishing an independent Irish government.
