By swimming. The fish uses it's tail muscles to pull its tail back and forth propelling the water out of the way. Did you know that the faster-swimming fish generally have a smaller gap in their tail while slow fish have a bigger gap?

Fish move by oscillating their fins and tails. It is a very efficient form of transport in the water.
