What country are cinnamon rolls from?

This is a good question. The quick answer is France in the early 1700's. Just after the Age of Exploration and our European friends explored the Caribbean, where they discovered sugar and infused it with butter and all the other pastries were born. Is there any historical data to back this up? Many will argue, but currently none can prove, or disprove.
