When was quill used?

Quills were primarily used as writing instruments from the 6th century until the 19th century. Made from the feathers of birds, particularly geese and swans, quills became popular for their ability to produce fine lines and were often dipped in ink for writing. The use of quills gradually declined with the advent of metal nibs and fountain pens, which offered greater convenience and durability.
