The song "You Are My Sunshine" was written by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell in 1939. Under current copyright law, the song would have entered the public domain in 1991, 50 years after the death of Jimmie Davis. However, in 1990, the U.S. Congress passed the Copyright Renewal Act, which extended the copyright term for works published between 1923 and 1963. As a result, "You Are My Sunshine" is still under copyright protection until 2035, 95 years after its publication.
