You can if you drink a lot and overdose on the pain medication. It is always recommended that you do not mix these two drugs however.

There is another risk... If you take more pain medications than are actually prescribed by your doctor, it is possible that you could fail a random drug test. Many prescription pain medications contain narcotics, and they will show up in a random drug test. If this happens, they will be able to determine exactly how much you had in your system, and compare it with the prescribed dose thus failing the drug test.
There is also the risk from seemingly innocuous things that are contained in pain pills, such as aspirin and acetaminophen. Aspirin in large dosages can cause bleeding, sometimes with fatal results. Acetaminophen in large dosages will cause liver damage and/or failure, sometimes with fatal results.
