Can a turtle respond to its name?

I am going to say yes to this question because for the past five years I have been friends that happens to be a turtle lover and has some turtles herself. She had these two yellow bellied turtles and every single time she would call for them...they would come. then she had to give them away because they were getting too big for her 35 gallon tank. So she gave them to a friend of hers that had a pond and told them her their names and that they answer to them and from resent reports they still know their names and still come running.
