I have a 2000 Z71. Changing all the shocks was actually very easy. I don't work on vehicles much at all and I was able to do all four in an afternoon. Note that you will need a fairly substantial floor (scissor) jack to lift the vehicle enough to remove the wheel. You need to raise and then support the vehicle using a jack and stand under the frame rail (not under the control arm). I also had to lay a piece of plywood under the jack wheel and the stand base to keep them from digging into the concrete in my driveway. Taking the wheel off will give you all the room you need to work. With the wheel off, the installed shock will be fully extended with no load on it. All you will need to do is loosen the hardware at either end of the shock, pull it out, put the new one in, and tighten itup using the new hardware provided with the shocks. The shocks should come with fairly detailed instructions, too. For the front, I think I had the tools I needed with a fairly basic Craftsman socket set. For the rear, I had to make a Sears run to buy a biga$$ wrench. Yeah, all the fasteners are metric. Good luck!
