First off, all Tequilas are Mezcals, but not all Mezcals are Tequilas.

Tequila must be made from at least 51% Blue Agave and must be made in the tequila region of Mexico. Anything less, or outside of the Tequila region is known as a Mezcal.

Mezcals can be made anywhere in the world, and be made from either green or blue agave.

The famous gusano worm is only found in some Mezcals - never tequila. The gusano worm does not eat the blue agave. They only eat green agaves.
