Do owl see during the day?

Owls are very capable of flying in the day, and I have seen numerous owls in the Namib desert hunting striped mice late morning to mid afternoon after an unsuccessful night. The pupils in the eyes simply constrict to a point where the pupil is a very small black dot, allowing in as little as possible light.
