The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Section IX covers the topic of Welding Procedure Qualification and Welder qualifications. This particular section of ASME does not address Non-Destructive Testing (NDE) personnel. To find the NDT recertification requirements for ASME applications, refer to ASME Section V (Nondestructive Examination), Article 1, T-120(e). This article will direct you to The American Society of Non-Destructive testing (ASNT). ASNT-SNT-TC-1A and/or ASNT CP-189 which are the primary documents that govern the certification and recertification of NDT personnel for each level of certification (Level I, II, and III) for each inspection process (PT, MT, RT, etc.). ASNT recommended maximum recertification intervals per ASNT SNT-TC-1A (9.5) are: Levels I and II= three years. Level III = five years. These recertifications can be completed by evidence of training or when deemed necessary by the empolyer's NDT Level III personnel. The certification and recertification guidelines are included in the employer's written practice documents.
