Next, get someone to rotate the engine clockwise with a 30mm wrench on the crank pulley until both valves are closed--you'll be able to wiggle the rockers up and down. Now remove the distributor cap and look at the small end of the rotor. Whichever way it's pointing is the tower for the number 1 cylinder. Now if the wires ARE hooked up, things are different: follow the spark plug wire from the front (front is front of the car) right cylinder to the distributor.
