Conductors have low resistance. Recall Ohm's law. The higher the conductor resistance, the greater the voltage drop along the conductor, and the less voltage that is available for the load. The conductor resistance is a resistance in series with the load.
Also, higher conductor resistance results in more electrical power being converted into heat, warming up the conductors. This is calculated with the formula P=I2R. The greater the resistance, the greater the power wasted heating the conductors.
