Why is cheese hidden inside the ring shaped ring cake?

A bean or small trinket is hidden. Whoever gets it gets to wear the crown that comes with the cake and, traditionally, provides the cake the next year. In more recent years, cream cheese is used inside these cakes, which are served at Epiphany, as well as other treats such as fruits.
