If there is an acronym at the very end of the sentence what do you use for a period?

You wouldn't use one is the acronym had a period in it. You could change the acronym so that it didn't have a period in it; such as ... "The doctor told him he had developed A.I.D.S." to "The doctor told him he had developed AIDS."
