How do labrador retrievers adapt for winter?

Water resistance is the key. Labradors have a double coat. The initial coat is a warm, fluffy undercoat. On top of that is a slick oily coat that deflects most water. Nevertheless, Labradors should not be allowed in cold water for very long to prevent hypothermia.
