Can you get a dog in Red Dead Redemption?

Yes you can in the last part of the game, when you are at your farm, you can hunt with your son, led by your dog Rufus.

After of even before this if you whistle near any dog in any town it will follow you for a short while so i suppose you could get a dog if you whistle every few minuets.
