This depends upon the reference to which enslaved men and women. Most people, while enslaved develop one of two attitudes. They either accept the circumstance and look for the best way to survive it, or they deny the legitimacy of it and look for a way out. Once enough of the population take the latter of these opinions, they will often band together. A plot will be drawn to emancipate themselves and others in the circumstance. In America, this came through the collaboration with non-slave owners who were partial to the cause and helped change the course.
