What is a good analogy of self sacrifice?

You can find its scriptural roots in the following:

1. Conventional sacrifice in Mark 14:24;

2. Passover sacrifice in John 19:14;

3. The sin offering in Romans 8:2;

4. The offering of the first fruits in 1 Corinthians 15:20

5. The self-offering of the High Priest in Hebrews

This metaphor tell us an account of the salvation that God brings through Jesus, particularly through his death for our sins (1 Corinthians 15:3). His death create a new situation in which, all obstacles removed, we can enter a fulfilled relationship with God.

This metaphor is effective in atoning and purifying human (Gunton and Young).

However, this metaphor may press one to think of a crude and distorted theology in which God is seen as demanding a blood-sacrifice.
