The so-called killer bee is badly named: it should be called an Africanized bee because it is the result of a cross originally between an African queen (apis mellifera scutella) and western drones.
The sting of a single Africanized bee is no more dangerous than that of a western bee, but the Africanized bees tend to be less docile so the risk of being stung multiple times is greater.
In this sense, it could be considered a pest because beekeepers prefer their bees to be more docile so than can be more easily handled.
