Point-of-Sale-Advertising, or Point-of-sale marketing material, is consumer-facing messaging for products or services designed to be viewed as the customer is making a purchase -- usually in a traditional brick-and-mortar environment.
.
Examples include signage, stickers, counter-top product displays, specialty packaging, banners, touch-screen displays, feedback forms. Technically, a clerk recommending a product, service, or additional action as you are checking out is Point-of-Sale-Advertising as well, although not commonly considered part of the category.
This is not to be confused with a point-of-sale system (POS System), which is technology designed to help take the order and process payment. A POS system usually includes a cash register and credit card machine.
