How do you list a website in search engines?

Most major search engine have a webmaster section or an "add or submit url" link where you can submit your own url.

Other search engines that do not have that feature will hace crawlers that will periodically check the internet for new sites. So you just need to be patient.

Other websites have a free search engine submission service that you can use where they will submit your website to several search engine. The downside to doing that is that you will get a lot of Spam emails afterwards.

Submitting your sites is an old myth. The internet is so connected today, that all the big search engines such as : google.com , Yahoo.com, Avasearch.com , Bing.com , Clasearch.com, Ask.com, Aol.com ... all crwal each other and all of the other ones just feed from those.
It is enough just to register a domain and its "Who is" will get already crawled
