In order to worry, one must be subject to time- because worry is related to a potential future event/circumstance. Animals do not worry because they live in the present. Animals can be stressed within a present moment and will respond with the fight or flight response, but they are not capable of contemplating the outcome of a future event to the point of exaggerating the outcome, which then leads to worry.
