Dark, secluded places or corners. Try pulling open an old chest of drawers, you might find some attached to the depths of the framework. A cockroach egg is a hard-shelled, dark brown elongated 'pod' that nastily explodes whitish goo onto your fingers if you accidentally pop it before it hatches. Prying one off a favorite something that's been left alone too long is not easy.
