Pull it, clean the case and send it to a transmission rebuilder that has successfully rebuilt aircooled VW transmissions before. As John Muir said in his "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive," you have to be in practice and he didn't want to practice that much, and it takes tools you would never dream of owning.
