Seeking food, no need to panic, it will not hurt you, give them a way out and they will go. No need to kill it, calm down...ha. All they want is a way out, trap them in a large box or herd them with a broom or 2 to the nearest exit. They can be picked up by the tail but be careful and quick, hold them near the ground as they will think you are going to let them down and move them to the outside. They can not pick themselves up by the tail, that is a myth/rumor. We had a young one come in through the fireplace ash dump in the bottom of the fireplace. Ended up in the bathroom, scooped it up in a large trash can and took it outside, ran off scared but happy.......sealed the fireplace trap door.....
