What extinct creature got its name from the Portuguese word for stupid?

Some sources state that "Dodo" derives from Portuguese doudo (currently doido) meaning "fool" or "crazy".

Others think "Dodo" is onomatopoeic spelling of the bird's call. It will be hard to prove now.
