What would cause a Mitsubishi Lancer 1990 to turn off by itself after 5 seconds when on standby?

Change the spark plugs.. It causes the car to turn off when they are not good... Or it could be your timing belt, the time setting on the belt could be off track.. and if it's not that then it could be your computer has a glitch.. It could be many things but check the spark-pluggs
