Çatalhöyük houses had rooftop entries primarily for safety and security. This design helped protect inhabitants from potential intruders and wild animals, as well as provided a means to escape in case of danger. Additionally, the rooftops facilitated space-saving construction in the densely packed community and allowed for better ventilation and light inside the homes. Accessing homes through the roof also encouraged communal living and interaction among neighbors.
