When did New York become the center of the Art World?

It was during the Abstract Expressionistic movement. in the 1950's there was a thing called the New York school where artists like Pollack and Max Earnst and those types were showing at the newly established Guggenheim Gallery. check out New York School for more info, or abstract expressionists. It was the only addition to Art North America has ever contributed.
