Large birth weight babies, often referred to as macrosomic infants, can be caused by several factors, including maternal Diabetes (gestational or pre-existing), maternal obesity, and excessive weight gain during pregnancy. Genetic factors can also play a role, as well as the baby's sex, with males typically being larger. Additionally, having had previous large babies can increase the likelihood of subsequent macrosomic births.
