Is it true that garden knomes protect your garden?

what do you think....... well there's a hidden tree spirit that will grant you one wish if you smash the knomes (actually it's spelt gnomes) open but if you smash the wrong gnome open you will be cursed so the only drink you will be able to taste is carrot juice.
