Why do some crackers have holes in them?

I not a crack maker or anything but I believe the hole might be so the cracks might get the just the right amount of air in them. I know this because I have made bread and cookies and crackers need to be flat.

There are holes in crackers for two reasons. One is to ensure the cracker stays flat as mentioned above. The second is to score the cracker so it can be broken into presized pieces.
