Why wear a hat?

The wearing of clothing has two basic purposes: functionality and aesthetics.

You might use a hat for warmth, for protection from rain, from sun or from wind, for camoflauge, to showcase your wealth, and for storage. You might also wear a hat to look good or because you like its appearance. Note that many of these purposes may be combined in a single hat.
