How does boycoting relate to revolution and the early years of the nation?

The colonists boycotted several things that they considered over-taxed from the British empire, most notably tea. Unfortunately, at the time, tea was very popular. The boycotting of tea led to the event known as the Boston Tea Party, which was one of many events that led to the Revolutionary War.
