After being forcibly taken across the Atlantic (the so called Middle Passage), slaves would be sold in markets in the West Indies or in America. Often families would be broken up. The markets were very sordid, with intimate physical examination of the naked male and female slaves being frequent and whenever they could they would fight back and the europeans would pay African peaople to kidnap them and they were kept in a compartment under the boat and it was cramed and when they went to all the countries to sell them (triangular trade) they were given different names.
