Is Bill Gates the richest the richest man alive?

Friends since childhood Paul Allen and Bill Gates founded Microsoft in 1975. Microsoft grew throughout the 1980s; introducing their Windows operating system in 1985 but it did not become widely adopted until version 3 appeared in 1992. During the mid 1990s Gates was listed by the Forbes magazine as the wealthiest man in the world.
