Is breathing in fumes from a common bug spray bad?

IMO, you don't have enough exposure when used as prescribed for any long term ill effects. just ensure adequate ventilation & these are all contact sprays for the most part anyway unless stated otherwise. If it is a residual product, be careful where you apply.
