Why is impressive graphics good?

Impressive graphics makes your software look professional and makes people want to use it. A lot of people would be more likely to use a slower program than a faster one if the graphics are more impressive or realistic. In games, the better the graphics is, the better you can get into the mood and enjoy the game. It can be hard to tell who is who in a game if you cannot make out the characters that well.
