Francisco Vásquez de Coronado, a Spanish conquistador, led an expedition in the 1540s to find the legendary Seven Cities of Gold, also known as Cibola. The expedition took place in what is now the southwestern United States, particularly in present-day Arizona and New Mexico. Despite not finding the cities made of gold, the expedition did explore and document a significant portion of the region.
