The song, Hey Paula, was composed by Ray Hildebrand and performed by Hildebrand and Jill Smith, both students at the time (1963) in Howard Payne College in Brownwood, Texas. The names on the record and their act were changed to Paul and Paula by the record company for marketing continuity.
