As of 08/2015, auction prices run from about $10 for a coin in worn condition to about $60 for one in MS-63 condition. However it's important to have any suspected Black Beauty nickel authenticated by a grading agency because the color is easy to fake.
These coins resulted when a batch of coin blanks weren't properly annealed before being struck.
