Monarch Butterflies primarily roost in the oyamel fir forests of central Mexico, particularly in the states of Michoacán and Mexico. These areas provide the cool, humid conditions necessary for the butterflies to survive during the winter months. They also roost in clusters on tree branches, which helps to conserve heat. Some populations also roost in other regions, such as parts of California, where suitable habitats are found.
