What are the characteristics of folk narrative?

Folk tales come in all shapes and sizes; however, there are some typical characteristics that nearly all will exhibit. One is the element of the unusual, quite often even the fantastic, such as talking animals, magic, and monsters. Another is a moral, that is, a helpful lesson for life.
