What was Indias role in the silk road?

The Silk route passed through India as you may already be knowing, the job of some (bad) Indians was to rob these foreigners/travellers/merchants, while the job of others(the good ones) would be to protect them and some were to make sure that the foreigners/travellers/merchants were not cheated during their time in India.
