How do you test the fuel pump on a 1997 GMC Jimmy?

Listen for a hum from under the middle of the vehicle when you turn the key to the on position. If you hear a 2 to 4 second hum, then the fuel pump is most likely working. If your vehicle has fuel but will not start, replace the fuel filter. If there is no hum, check the fuse first.
