Lactoacidosis suggests there is a high level of dissolved carbon dioxide in the blood, causing the blood to become acidic. In order to remove this carbon dioxide from the body as it is a waste metabolite, you hyperventilate in order to "blow off" the excess carbon dioxide from your blood.
