What is the point of view of the short story The Painted Door?

The painted door can symbolize many things, for instance. The fact that John and Anne's relationship is falling apart, and she wants to paint the door, why do we paint to cover up things. Maybe she is denying that things are not what she expected them to be therefore she wants to deny her unhappiness and her urge for disloyalty. Usually door symbolizes the beginning or end of a 'thing' in this story it symbolizes the relationship.
