What does citing statistics mean?

Definition:An author may list statistics or scientific facts to lend importance or credibility to his/her argument. This is really not the real meaning so go to google and use it cuz a bunch of people edit this so dont use it. The last sentence is not true a bunch of jerk wads edited this.
