Sugar gliders raise their babies, called joeys, in the rainforest by keeping them in a pouch similar to a kangaroo's. After a gestation period of about 16 days, the tiny joeys crawl into the mother's pouch, where they remain for several weeks, nursing and developing. The mother often forages for food while carrying the joeys on her back once they are older, ensuring they stay safe and close as she moves through the canopy. This nurturing behavior helps the young sugar gliders learn essential survival skills in their complex rainforest habitat.
